“Buzzed but not impaired. I can make sound judgments.” She pulled me closer, leaving no doubt she wanted it too.

Her response was so quintessentially Belle and it made me laugh. “Good, because I’m not going to stop at just kissing you, Belle, and I need to know this is what you want.”

I’d slept with my fair share of women, some of who I really didn’t care much about. They didn’t care much about me either so I guess I felt justified in the transaction. A car horn blared from the road, some asshole hanging out his window screaming something at the car in front of him. And while I hated being pulled away from that moment, the suspended reality where nothing else mattered, I was not going to fucking maul her in the street.

“Don’t stop.” Her mouth moved against my jaw, standing on tippy-toes as she craned her neck to reach. She was so delicate and small yet resilient and strong. A contradiction I might never recover from.

“Belle, we’re outside. I’m not fucking you up against a wall.” I tried to rein in my breathing, hoping my balls would chill out because they were just fine with that plan.

“We’re gonna have sex?” She blinked back, a little surprised. “Don’t say things you don’t mean, Jagger.”

“Yeah, we’re gonna have sex, Belle.” My hand grazed against her cheek, unable to stop what I felt was inevitable. I wanted her. Intoxicated so deeply that I was beyond making reasonable choices. And staying away from her was no longer an option. “But not here.”

My eyes followed the lines of her throat as she swallowed, her beautiful eyes fixed on mine. “But I still get to work
